On 14-15 November, Romain Rolland Foreign Language High School in Stara Zagora will welcome over 200 students, coaches, chaperones, and judges from all over southern Bulgaria for the first BEST tournament of the 2015-2016 season. The tournament will start on Saturday morning and end Sunday afternoon. Students will compete in debate, public speaking, and other performing arts, all in English.

This will be the first BEST tournament of the school year, and the first-ever regional BEST tournament. BEST has invited schools from cities across southern Bulgaria, including Plovdiv, Pazardzhik, Blagoevgrad, Burgas, Dimitrovgrad, Haskovo, Sliven, Smolyan, and of course, Stara Zagora. BEST managing director Anna Fuselier said she is surprised and pleased by the expected turnout, given that the tournament is regional rather than national. “We projected between 100-150 students, and we’re expecting at least 160, including several teams from schools who have never participated in our tournaments before,” she said. “We are so excited by this level of growth so early in the year.”

After Stara Zagora, BEST will hold tournaments in seven additional Bulgarian cities throughout the fall and spring, including the upcoming tournament in Ruse on 21-22 November.
