Our internship positions are designed to directly support and learn from the coordinator positions on the BEST Management Team. Interns are expected to attend all tournaments and some of the Management Team meetings unless informed otherwise. 

Interns can be promoted to coordinators in their respective positions for the following year based on their performance throughout the internship.

Internship Positions (2024-2025)

The BEST Management Team is looking for current students or recent graduates to join our team as interns for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Available positions:

  • Debate Program Assistant

  • Video Editing Intern

  • Photography and Videography Intern

  • Student Leader Intern

  • Tournament Administrator Intern

  • Judge Program Intern

  • Fundraising Department Intern

  • Graphic Design Intern

  • Interns can be current high school students OR university students.

  • Interns cannot compete in tournaments (since being on the Management Team presents a conflict of interest).

  • Application requirements differ for each position. Some interns must be prepared to attend all tournaments for the upcoming year.

Debate Program Assistant

The Debate Program intern will assist the Debate Coordinator (Ari Wheeler) with various tasks including researching motions, managing the software for tabbing debate, helping with debate training, and other tasks. It’s preferred that this person is interested in learning all aspects of the program to potentially be promoted to the Debate Program Coordinator next year!

Responsibilities:

  • Help the coordinator when needed;

  • Help in the organization of tournaments;

  • Help in leading seminars;

  • Help with tabulation. 

Requirements:

  • Debate experience preferred

  • High school graduate or above

  • Able to attend most tournaments this year

Video Editing Intern

The Video Editing Intern will work with the Marketing Coordinator primarily on video production and editing. This intern should have experience with video editing, as well as motion graphics, and should be comfortable working on video editing software, such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Vegas Pro Final Cut Pro, etc. This intern will produce digital media content, to enhance BEST’s video and professional media presence. The time commitment depends on how much time the intern spends in the production of media content - plan to complete at least four substantial motion graphic projects during the year.

Responsibilities:

  • Edit video content;

  • Assist the marketing department. 

Requirements:

  • Video Editing experience

  • Technical equipment  - Must own video editing software, ideally Adobe Creative Cloud products.

  • In-depth knowledge of the video editing process

  • Willing to dedicate substantial time to creating high-quality work

Special Application Requirements:

Suitable for: High school or university students with video editing background.

Photography and Videography Intern

Responsibilities:

  • Capture photo and video materials at tournaments and other BEST-related events

  • Recording interviews during the school year (to be discussed with the marketing coordinator)

  • Edit photographs and videos before sending them to the marketing coordinator, ideally within five days after the end of the event 

Requirements: 

  • Some photo and video editing knowledge and experience and a desire to develop 

  • Knowledge of how to work with video cameras, how to set up microphones and tripods 

  • Being able to attend every BEST event

  • Willing to dedicate substantial time to creating high-quality work

  • Good time management skills 

  • Good level of English (B2/C1)

  • Good team player

SL Intern

Responsibilities:

Assist the Student Leader Program Coordinator with the following activities: 

  • Plan and manage all aspects of the student leadership program;

  • Prepare program proposal and checklist for Student Leader Training, Student Leader Wrap up; 

  • Work with management to request booking of the training in September;

  • Organize Student Leader Training program and participants; 

  • Program Wrap-up Seminar and other events including workshops; 

  • Hold Mid-year Check-in online meetings with SLs;

  • Have a list of activities for year-around remote engagement for SLs;

  • Collect feedback from SLs and fellow MT members and use it to help design project proposals;

  • Arrange volunteer schedules and manage volunteers at tournaments.

Requirements:

  • Be communicative;

  • Have teamwork and leadership skills.

Suitable for: University students in social science or humanities disciplines, or working professionals BEST Alumni, previous SLs, students last year in school.

Speechwire/Tournament Registration Intern

The registration intern will assist the current Tournament Administrator (Kristiyana Kiranska) with handling all tasks related to team registration, and SpeechWire operations like round assignments, judge assignments, rankings and more. It’s preferred that this person is interested in learning all aspects of tournament administration to potentially be promoted to the Administrator role next year.

Responsibilities:

  • Tabbing tournaments;

  • Be in charge of the registration process.

Requirements:

  • BEST experience preferred;

  • Senior in high school or above;

  • Able to attend most tournaments this year;

  • Willing to be committed for 2 more years; 

  • Have knowledge in Microsoft programs (especially Excel). 

  • Show interest in the field of information technologies.

Judge Program Intern

Responsibilities:

  • Be assistance to the coordinator for each and every task of theirs.

Requirements

  • Have been a judge at BEST;

  • Have experience in speech categories;

  • To stay for a 2nd year as a potential coordinator;

  • Be available at every tournament;

  • Social, easy-going, communicative person;

  • Knowledge of Excel is advantageous.

Fundraising Department Intern - 2 Intern positions available 

Responsibilities:

Assist and support the Fundraising Coordinator with the following tasks: 

  • Research for appropriate companies that might become sponsors and fill appropriate databases with results, send emails with requests for sponsorships and product/services support for the tournaments; 

  • Participate in lead generation in Linkedin; 

  • Organize online fundraising events (Summerslam, Debate Showcase); 

  • Participate in the creation of in-person fundraising events - Quiz, Special evenings, Alumni performance events; 

  • Participate in promotional items selection for all tournaments;

  • Work with close collaboration with the rest of the Management Team (most volunteers) and monetize all possible contacts in accordance with the mission of the Foundation;

  • Organize online and in-person fundraising workshops for Coaches and School Teams.

Requirements: 

  • Passionate about communication with new people; 

  • Desire to develop negotiation skills and to try different approaches to a potential donors; 

  • Has good relationship management skills; 

  • Positive and proactive attitude; 

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills; 

  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

Translation and Content intern

Responsibilities:

  • Translate text from English to Bulgarian and vice versa:

    • Website materials, news, and archive

    • Operational documents

    • Press-releases

    • Social media posts 

  • Maintain an up-to-date translation stylebook 

  • Put together the newsletter (every 2-3 months) via Mailchimp and coordinate that with the current Marketing Coordinator and the Executive Director; 

  • Copywriting in the form of longer articles meant to go onto the Foundation’s official website, LinkedIn account, blog posts.

Requirements: 

  • Native level of Bulgarian language; 

  • Good time management skills; 

  • A high level of English (C1 and above preferably); 

  • Teamwork; 

  • Good working level of G-suite (Gmail, Word, etc).

Graphics Design Intern

Requirements:

  • Interns can be current high school students OR university students;

  • Interns cannot compete in tournaments (since being on the Management Team presents a conflict of interest);

  • Interns must be prepared to attend all tournaments for the upcoming year.

Responsibilities:

  • Design marketing materials for BEST including social media graphics, swag items, virtual meeting backgrounds, banners and more. 

  • Assist the marketing team with ideas for social media campaigns and projects

  • Assist with any ad hoc projects when available

Requirements: 

  • Skills working with Photoshop, Lightroom, or other editing software; 

  • Knowledge of how to use a photo camera (preferably DSLR if you don't have your own); 

  • Being able to be at every BEST event;
