The Student Leader Program
Training Young leaders to serve schools and communities
BEST’s Student Leader Program trains Bulgarian high school students participating in BEST to be team leaders, mentors to younger students, and active servants in their home communities. Student Leaders are nominated by their BEST coach for their outstanding leadership, encouragement, and commitment to their team.
Components of the Student Leader Program:
A weekend-long opening training retreat in September with various leadership and fun workshops
Meeting sessions during regional tournaments
Individual mid-year call with a management team member
Closing weekend seminar to present community projects and feedback
BEST Foundation covers all costs associated with travel, room and board for the opening and closing seminars. During their year as Student Leaders, SLs will:
Mentor and support fellow BEST teammates
Form meaningful friendships with young leaders all over Bulgaria
Help BEST coaches with logistics before, during, and after tournaments
Recruit fellow students from school for BEST
Create a sense of team spirit and enthusiasm on one’s team
Be a positive and active member of the BEST community
Respect all rules at tournaments and be a good example to others
We have created a point system to manage students’ participation and graduation from the program. In order to successfully graduate from this program students need to attend all meetings and seminars, submit 2 pre-tournament projects and complete one Community Project. Awards are given to SLs with top scores.
