Debates Without Borders: BEST Foundation’s Debate Program Continues to Expand Horizons With Online Competitions

BEST Foundation believes not only in providing young people with a platform to express themselves, but in continuous improvement of our activities and events. That is why, for the second year in a row, our Debate Program has continued to organise online debate competitions that give students an opportunity to practice and an additional chance to qualify for the final National tournament.

Throughout the academic year, three online tournaments were organised - the Lynch Cup, the Rowe Cup and the Totten Cup. The competition across all three events was fierce, the discussions were both insightful and deep, and we even celebrated the achievements of a few standout speakers with special awards.

All three events had several teams from different schools across the country competing in fast-paced, impromptu rounds with several thought-provoking and intriguing motions. Topics ranged from the rise of micro-celebrities, to the impact of being optimistic, to the opposition of glorification of specific topics in historic military narratives. Furthermore, students were given good quality evaluation from volunteer and alumni judges, situated not only in Bulgaria, but Germany, the Netherlands and the United States.

Such events not only improve the quality of our Debate Program, but they showcase the impact of our community as we are always honoured to welcome more students and alumni that want to take part in similar events.
